Who?
You don't have to have any special skill. You can be any age over 18 and from any background or ethnic group. You just have to be non-judgemental and interested in people. Training is given.
What's involved?
The Porch undoubtedly does make a difference to people's lives, not just to our Member users but to Volunteers and all involved with the Steppin' Stone Centre.
Volunteers spend time talking and listening to Members. Sometimes you can be the only person who has given attention and time to a person that day or even that week. You might well hear some fascinating life-stories.
At the end of the session you will feel pleased that you have helped. How would you feel if you had no friend or partner to share with and talk to?
Social contact is a very powerful thing and certainly adds to the meaning of a person's life. Giving time to somebody is a precious gift.
Also
Chores need to be done such as preparing vegetables, serving food, washing-up, and cleaning the premises.
Can I share my skills?
Do you have any particular expertise or skills that you can share and teach to members?
Art & craft, computers, literacy and life skills, sporting interests, gardening, woodwork, - the list can go on share your talents.
